Throughout the late '40s, J. J.’s Hawaiians, generally conceded to be the very best in the business, were everywhere -- on radio, in the most prestigious dance halls - and later on LP records for the Spotlight, W&G, and Astor labels.   Jim's knowledge of the repertoire, lyrics, history, meaning and aesthetics of the music is unsurpassed.

Jim is one Kahuna who knows how to set the feet a-tappin' and the mind a-singing.  Here in conjunction with a team of top studio players, he delivers up 14 terrific instrumental performances, each with the swinging feel of yesterday's magic.  If you remember what it was like to dance to a swinging Hawaiian band, this is for you!

Bruce, Just wanted to let you know, I had a couple of friends visit this weekend, and they couldn’t stop listening to the Hawaiian Hotshots.  One of them was in Hawaii with me, (so he was familiar with Hawaiian music), but it was my other friend’s introduction to Island music.  Each time we returned home from our bachelor adventures, they turned the stereo on to hear more Hawaiian Hotshots.
