Supplementary notes on the musical selections in this set:-
"Aloha Oe Blues", "Hula Blues" and "Orange Grove In California" (which has slightly updated harmonies) are recreations of the famous Sol Ho'opi'i charts.
"Twilight Blues" is 'in the style' of Sol Ho'opi'i and comes with an extra example of improvisation by a great Australian steeler, the late Les Adams. For further ideas on this tune, check out Dick McIntire's version on "Royal Hawaiian Hotel" (CQCD - 2746) - it's quite an ear-opener.
"Carefree" is the beautiful 1937 Andy Iona arrangement with a few updated harmonies.
"Hilo March" - a steel guitar perennial. Advanced players might find it interesting to try the Jerry Byrd or Dick McIntire arrangements over our backing.
"Chili Blues" a terrific technique builder originally recorded by Rodney Rodgers' Red Peppers way back in 1927.
"Lovelight In The Starlight" and "Balinese Love Song" with their advanced harmonies each offer tonal and expressive challenges and possibilities.
"To Andy Iona" offers an obstacle course of subtle tempo fluctuation, designed to heighten even the most creative performer's expressive powers.

Hi Bruce, Having a good time with Chilli Blues… something I’ve wanted to play for a long time. It will take me some time to get it all down and up to some decent speed but its great fun.
