Sound Clip From: “Down South”

Eugene Pingitore, born of Italian-American parents in 1895, was truly a charismatic artist and performer. Pingitore was a brilliant multi-instrumentalist and a total master of the classic guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin, ukulele, clarinet and saxophone. He learnt his trade in Italy, Brazil and America – then brought it all to Australia.

This collection brings together three of his most popular recordings: “Down South” (banjo with rhythm section), “Banjo On My Knee” (with Ron Rosenberg, piano) and “Spanish Guitar” (nine classic guitar solos). Let’s listen as he plunks a few bars of  the old ‘minstrel days’ classic, “Down South”.
