For three decades, Ray Kinney could lay claim to being the most recorded Hawaiian male vocalist; rivalled only by George Kainapau, and a little later, Alfred Apaka. His recorded associations with Dick and Lani McIntire, Andy Iona, and his own quartets, quintets and orchestras played a large part in establishing the music’s post-mid-30s identity.  His recorded vocal duets with Kainapau and the later vocal trios and quartets with Kainapau, Apaka and Henry Paul can still – today, some six decades later – stimulate the imagination.

“Island Serenades” features Kinney at three different stages of his long performing career.
