In 1949, the same year that Splinter Reeves formed his 'Splintette' (see JFDU 4), pianist & arranger, Don Banks, formed his 'Boptet'. Unlike Reeve's group, a fulltime working unit, Don's ensemble worked mainly in radio and recording studios. After this Jazzart session, Don went to the UK to study with Matyas Seiber & later took over his position as resident movie composer for the Hammer House of Horror. For Banks, this served as a workshop for ideas that later became important compositions. Both groups made Aussie Jazz history by introducing post WW2 jazz to our radio and concert audiences. This collection contains their complete Jazzart 78 rpm recordings, several tracks featuring Duke Ellington's trumpet star, Rex Stewart.
