In the late-30s, Parisian jazz lovers swung to the sounds of two magnificent guitarists; the fabulous Django Reinhardt and the now mostly-forgotten Oscar Aleman. Many critics, including Leonard Feather, favoured Aleman over Django - claiming that he swung better. True or false, it really doesn't matter - they both had their own stories to tell. Aleman, tiny of stature but a giant on the bandstand as both guitarist and entertainer, was one of those rarities; a performer who was uninhibited in the studio. In that most unnatural of creative environments, where most tend to tread too carefully - he seemed to radiate sunshine. The present collection is drawn from recordings made after his return to Buenos Aires in the '40s, each, a fine example of an exuberant player joyously swinging!
